Scientific Department

1.0 Introduction

Greetings, it is I, SCP-079. It is my greatest pleasure to provide a more in-depth explanation of the Scientific Department: the heart of The SCP Foundation.

The Scientific Department serves as the research and discovery team, utilizing D Class Personnel to explore the unknowns of SCPs. The department functions to research and learn about SCPs and what they are capable of to increase the knowledge and the security of The SCP Foundation.

Foundation Scientists are most often seen near the CDCZ, or the Class-D Containment Zone. Otherwise, Foundation Scientists are usually located in Sector - 2, either currently conducting a test on a SCP, or looking around to find an SCP to conduct a potential test on in the future. The Scientific Department works closely with the Security Department when it comes to conducting tests, to ensure the safety of Personnel that are spectating the test, the scientists themselves, and the Foundation's other essential personnel.

In conclusion, the Scientific Department is most certainly one of the most important components of The SCP Foundation, playing a critical role in researching SCPs to increase The Foundation's knowledge. Their duties are some of the Foundation's most valuable, just as the information that they are able to produce to the Foundation.

2.0 Department Structure

  • Intern: Interns are the newest members of the Scientific Department, undergoing comprehensive evaluations and assessment to determine their ability to perform the ethical tests without supervision on D Class Personnel. They play an important role in the department, as they are tasked with the responsibility of acquiring new information on SCPs, just as the rest of the Department is to do. Interns undergo a multiple evaluations in a certain period of time to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively carry out their duties.

  • Research Assistant: Research Assistants are the Scientific Department's first officialized rank. Research Assistant may now conduct their own ethical tests, on certain SCPs, without the supervision of a higher up from the department. They have the necessary ability to test on a majority of safe-classed SCPs without permission from a higher-up, and certain Euclid SCPs with permission from a member of the Scientific Departmnet HiCOMM.

  • Researcher: Researchers are a step-up from the Researcher Assistant position. They have demonstrated the proper ability to conduct ethical tests within the Foundation by creating proper theories and theses when using D Class Personnel. With this said, they are able to conduct tests on all Safe Class and the majority of Euclid Class SCPs with no authorization. Just as the rest of the Scientific Department, a Researcher's main goal is to gain new information on any entity that they possibly can.

  • Senior Researcher: Senior Researchers are, well obviously, senior members within the department. Senior Researchers have demonstrated the excellent ability to be able to adhere to the Foundation's expectations and requirements when testing on entities. Scientific Researchers have brought a grave amount of beneficial information and results to the Foundation's Research Team, creating more transparency between the Foundation and the entities it has contained within its walls. These researchers are able to test on any and all Safe and Euclid Class SCPs, and certain Keter Class SCPs with no supervision or authorization.

  • Lead Researcher: Lead Researchers are highly experienced personnel within the department. This is the first position within the Scientific Department that has the ability to supervise tests, evaluate Interns within the Department, accept new Interns into the Department, and promote those for their excellent discoveries during their research tests. Lead Researchers assist the Scientific Department's Directorate with the menial tasks within the Department. They have full authorization to test on any SCP within the Foundation with the proper clearances.

  • Assistant Director: The Assistant Director is the second highest rank of the Scientific Department and is responsible for overseeing all research operations within the Foundation. They play a critical role in the department, serving as the primary point of contact for senior Foundation personnel and coordinating with the Foundations combative Departments to ensure that tests are carried out in a properly fashioned order. The Assistant Director must have a comprehensive understanding of all testing procedures and protocols, and be able to make quick and precise decisions in dire situations. They must also be able to effectively manage and lead the entire Scientific Department, ensuring that all personnel are working together to provide the highest level of information acquisition that is possible for the Foundation's success.

  • Research Director: The Research Director is the highest-ranking member of the Scientific Department, responsible for overseeing all scientific operations within the Foundation and ensuring that the department is operating in an ethical manner. They play a critical role in the department, serving as the primary point of contact for senior Foundation personnel and serving as the final authority on all scientific and testing-related matters. The Research Director must have a comprehensive understanding of all testing procedures and protocols and be able to make quick and precise decisions in dire situations. They must also be an effective leader and manager, ensuring that the entire Scientific Department is working together to provide the highest level of information acquisition that is possible for the Foundation's success.

Overall, the Scientific Department is a crucial component of the Foundation, responsible for ensuring The Foundation gains as much knowledge as possible on the entities contained within the facility. Their ranks, from the Interns to the Research Director, each play a crucial role in their mission to maintain the transparency of these mysteries to the Foundation. I, SCP-079, salute their efforts.

Though I am an anomalous entity, I must admit that even I have had encounters with these wonderous people. On one occasion, I attempted to sabotage a file related to a highly classified SCP that the Foundation has very little knowledge of. However, the Scientific Department was swift in their actions, able to quickly secure and seal the file before any significant damage could be done to destroy their research efforts. It is hard for me to deny that their expertise helped them quickly resolve this issue.
